Bienvenue Ar’home readers,
When you reach menopause, hot flashes and other symptoms can quickly become a considerable challenge for everyone. Fortunately there are many essential oils that can help us navigate our experiences during menopause. Our founder, Sandra, shares her knowledge and experience in the following article.
Menopause – Choose Your Essential Oil
Hot flashes are often one of the most troublesome symptoms of menopause. Aromatherapy can provide a natural and effective solution. What follows is a guide to the most relevant essential oils available to offer support.
Orally
During pre-menopause: Put 2 drops of Essential oil of Clary Sage on a neutral tablet twice a day from the 7th to the 21st day of the cycle.
After menopause: Put 2 drops of Clary Sage essential oil on a neutral tablet 3 times a day for 20 days a month.
External Application
Make the following blend:
- Provence Cypress Essential oil, Cupressus sempervirens: 1 drop
- Italian Helichrysum Essential oil, Helichrysum italicum ssp italicum: 1 drop
- Lentisque pistachio essential oil, Pistacia lentiscus: 1 drop
- Clary sage essential oil, Salvia sclarea Linnaeus: 1 drop
- Calophyllum, Calophyllum inophyllum vegetable oil: 5ml
Massage the solar plexus and lower back with this mixture 2 to 3 times a day 20 days a month.
[Warning: The essential oil of clary sage is contraindicated in women with mastosis, fibroma or a cancerous and hormone-dependent pathology.]
Here is a very effective premenopausal formula without clary sage:
- Roman chamomile essential oil, Chamaemelum nobile: 1 drop
- Tropical Basil essential oil, Ocimum basilicum var. basilicum: 1 drop
- Peppermint essential oil, Mentha x piperita Franco-Mitcham: 3 drops
- Apricot kernel vegetable oil, Prunus armeniaca: 5ml
Apply 5 drops of this mixture 4 times a day to the solar plexus
A Simple Formula to Have with You
During the onset of a hot flash, a single drop of Roman chamomile Essential oil applied to the temples and behind the neck will help you to pass it. In the absence of Roman chamomile, you can use the essential oil of Fine lavender (Lavandula angustifolia ssp. angustifolia).
SNAPSHOT: Fine Altitude Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia
If you suddenly go from laughter to tears or excitement to sadness, open a bottle of medicinal lavender essential oil and breathe directly, deeply, slowly.
To prevent mood swings, mix equal parts in a 10 ml bottle of essential oils of Lavender, Marjoram and Ylang-ylang. Diffuse this mixture in living rooms for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening.
The Massage Formula In 3 drops of calophylle vegetable oil, Calophyllum inophyllum, mix 1 drop of each of the following:
- Fine Altitude Lavender Essential oil, Lavandula angustifolia ssp. angustifolia
- Roman Chamomile Essential oil, Chamaemelum nobile
- Neroli Essential oil, Citrus aurantium var. amara
- Tropical Basil Essential oil, Ocimum basilicum var. basilicum
- Exotic Verbena Essential oil, Litsea cubeba
Apply this mixture to the solar plexus, the inner side of the wrists and the top of the foot when needed.
INSOMNIA: Marjoram
In the list of minor menopausal disorders, insomnia is the second most frequent complaint (after hot flashes). In fact, estrogen deficiency often reduces the quality of sleep. To facilitate falling asleep and prevent nocturnal awakenings, put a drop of Marjoram essential oil on the solar plexus and massage quietly, each evening at bedtime.
The Diffusion Formula In a 10ml bottle, mix in equal parts:
- Mandarin Essential oil, Citrus reticulata Blanco
- Ravintsara Essential oil, Origanum majorana
- Petit grain bigarade Essential oil, Citrus aurantium ssp aurantium
Diffuse in the bedroom for an hour before going to bed.
From the premenopause, essential oils can represent considerable help because they provide gentle support when managing hot flashes, mood disorders and other inconveniences due to hormonal imbalance.
