Aromatherapy & Its Benefits

Aromatherapy & Its Benefits

Aromatherapy has been used by many people as a fascinating alternative to medicine. Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils distilled from various volatile plants to help with a range of health conditions such as boosting energy levels, fighting depression and anxiety, eliminating headaches, strengthening immune systems, increasing blood circulation and much more. There is more to aromatherapy than just essential oils. It also involves absolutes, herbal distillates, vaporizers and carrier oils. So if you are new to aromatherapy, there are many things you need to know about its components, applications and benefits.

One of the important constructs of aromatherapy is a “synergy”. A synergy is a combination of essential oils that are more powerful together than when the oils are used alone. This makes blending of essential oils an important aspect of aromatherapy. The range of blending possibilities is almost endless. However, it is always important to consult a trained and certified aromatherapist before blending or mixing the essential oils.

Some of the benefits of aromatherapy include:

Boosting energy levels & immune system

We use energy throughout the day and with the hectic daily tasks of modern life, our energy level typically goes down by the time we get home. Some people deal with this by using stimulates like energy pills, coffee, cigarettes or illegal substances, all of which cause more damage to the body. While regular exercise and a diet high in nutrients are essential, aromatherapy can also be used to boost your energy levels. Many essential oils are known to stimulate the body and mind, increase circulation and eventually boost energy levels. Tea tree, peppermint, sage, rosemary, and jasmine are some essential oils used for boosting energy levels. Healing and recovery

With antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal benefits, many essential oils can help increase the healing rate throughout the body. Essential Oils act as stimulants. They have anti-microbial properties that increase oxygen and blood circulation in the body and keep your body protected throughout the healing stages.

Some essential oils like calendula, lavender, and buckthorn can be used to speed up the healing process. A number of these oils can be used to relieve skin conditions like allergies and eczema and reduce the severity of wounds.

Skin conditions and healing needs can be very individual-specific. If you’re interested in discussing a personalized aromatherapy treatment or blend, a 1-on-1 consultation can be a great place to start:

Relief of stress and anxiety

The aromatic compounds found in many essential oils make aromatherapy an ideal tool for fighting stress and anxiety. Essential oils like peppermint, bergamot, and lavender among others act as relaxants and are used to soothe your mind in the process eliminating stress and anxiety. Some studies also associated these oils with improved moods and reduce of anger outbursts.

Antidepressant capacity

Just as with stress and anxiety, aromatherapy is commonly used in managing and treating depression. While aromatherapy can be a useful complementary treatment, people with persistent depression need to seek counseling or psychological help. Most aromatherapists will suggest chamomile, jasmine, peppermint and lavender as the best antidepressant essential oils.
